Welcome!
Morristown Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is a vibrant, multi-generational liberal religious home. We believe in walking alongside each other in our separate spiritual journeys while covenanting to create community and striving to make a more just world.
Who we are
Members and friends of the Fellowship come from a variety of backgrounds and beliefs. Our stories are different and our identities more so, but we believe that our spiritual journeys are enhanced by this diversity and that we learn from each other. At Morristown UU Fellowship we strive to live up to the commitments of our Right Relations Promise as we continue the work of building the beloved community.
Right Relations Promise
1. I will listen attentively, acknowledge others’ views and try to imagine holding their opinions.
2. I will refrain from judging other people’s motives and opinions.
3. I will seek accurate information, be willing to test my assumptions, and examine my own motives.
4. I will communicate openly, directly, and honestly. I will go directly to a person with whom I disagree and share differences respectfully. If needed, I will use a third party to mediate.
5. I will balance being open to new ideas and respecting our traditions.
6. I will be patient with myself, others, and the process of change.
7. I will allow space for feelings and emotions – mine and others’.
8. I will let go of the trivial, and be willing to give and take.
9. I will remind myself that we are all working for the shared goal of supporting our religious community.
We welcome
…all faiths and beliefs – Atheism to earth-centered beliefs to mainstream religions
…all families – Single, married, same-gender, grandparent/child, interfaith
…all sexualities
…all genders
…all ethnicities
…all ages

What we believe
After a democratic process involving thousands of Unitarian Universalists discussing the faith’s values and core theology over the past three-plus years, delegates at General Assembly 2024 voted decisively to approve a new statement of values and beliefs for Unitarian Universalism.

Interdependence
We honor the interdependent web of all existence. With reverence for the great web of life and with humility, we acknowledge our place in it.
We covenant to protect Earth and all beings from exploitation. We will create and nurture sustainable relationships of care and respect, mutuality and justice. We will work to repair harm and damaged relationships.
Pluralism
We celebrate that we are all sacred beings, diverse in culture, experience, and theology.
We covenant to learn from one another in our free and responsible search for truth and meaning. We embrace our differences and commonalities with Love, curiosity, and respect.
Justice
We work to be diverse multicultural Beloved Communities where all thrive.
We covenant to dismantle racism and all forms of systemic oppression. We support the use of inclusive democratic processes to make decisions within our congregations, our Association, and society at large.
Transformation
We adapt to the changing world.
We covenant to collectively transform and grow spiritually and ethically. Openness to change is fundamental to our Unitarian and Universalist heritages, never complete and never perfect.
Generosity
We cultivate a spirit of gratitude and hope.
We covenant to freely and compassionately share our faith, presence, and resources. Our generosity connects us to one another in relationships of interdependence and mutuality.
Equity
We declare that every person has the right to flourish with inherent dignity and worthiness.
We covenant to use our time, wisdom, attention, and money to build and sustain fully accessible and inclusive communities.
Individual UUs and their congregations are welcome to continue to hold and value the Seven Principles and Six Sources, which were adopted in 1984.
We are a member of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA), as such, we adhere to the eight principles (the 8th principle is being considered by other congregations and the UUA):
- The Inherent worth and dignity of every person
- Justice, equity and compassion in human relations
- Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations
- A free and responsible search for truth and meaning
- The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large
- The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all
- Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part
- Build a diverse multicultural Beloved Community by our actions that accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions
