Children’s and Youth Programs

People of all ages belong in our faith community. When we worship together it can be an enriching experience for all. We want every person to feel welcome, comfortable, loved, and respected within our community. We believe “for someone to find a home within the community, we must nurture them along each step of the way”.

Our PreK-5th grade classrooms buzz with excitement as young learners embark on a year-long adventure using the Soul Matters curriculum. Each program is meticulously crafted to meet the unique developmental needs and interests of each age group.

Every religion has milestones to mark the growth of its children. Catholics have Christening, First Communion, and Confirmation. Jews have Brises and Bar or Bat Mitzvahs. There are many more examples. But these rituals welcome into and mark as part of a specific religious group. They are important for both the individual and community grow in group cohesion as a result. Unitarian Universalists are no exception. We have the following Rites of Passage:

  • A blessing for the new life of the child
  • An expression of the parent or parents’ hopes for the child
  • A promise by the congregation to support and nurture the child

Unitarian Universalist congregations may hold a special Coming of Age ceremony after their youth complete a year-long period of learning and exploration. The program allows for students to dive deep into what it is they believe. They explore both the horizontal and vertical aspects of religion

A bridging ceremony is held for high school-aged youth, seniors or 17-18-year-olds, to mark their transition to adulthood. This ceremony is held in June every year.

The Morristown Unitarian Fellowship’s Gathering of Men (“GOM”) is an inclusive group of Fellowship men who gather together on a regular schedule to develop and maintain close and continuing group and individual relationships and friendships.

Groups meet every other Saturday.

We gather to encourage and support one another in meditation practice and in walking a path toward greater awareness and freedom. The meeting includes meditation, readings from Buddhist teachers, personal sharing, and discussion. Beginners and long-time practitioners are welcome. All Fellowship Programs

These Programs are for everyone in the Fellowship, children to adults.

Social Justice Groups

We are a community committed to Social Justice. While many of our members are active in various social justice causes, we have groups connected to the fellowship that are also doing the work of Social Justice.

GEM is the Fellowship’s environmental committee. We sponsor opportunities for advocacy for members of the congregation and educational programs for MUUF, sometimes inviting members of the wider community. All are welcome to attend our monthly meetings.

Immigration Justice Ministry supports the immigrant community through advocacy, education and service.

  • In collaboration with RAMP (Refugee Assistance Morris Partners) we help refugee families find housing, education, employment and provide mentoring, tutoring and counseling.
  • In collaboration with First Friends, we visit asylum seekers in detention centers in North Jersey.
  • In collaboration with Wind of the Spirit, we support legislation to benefit immigrants and improve legal outcomes.
  • We raise awareness of immigrant conditions through classes, services, publications and social media.

The Fellowship is a member of UU FaithAction NJ. Fellowship members with interests in health care, economic and environmental justice, marriage equality, and immigration reform can join with other New Jersey UU congregations to effect change through the state legislative process.
