Starting Point New UU Class
Welcome to Morristown UU! Welcome to Starting Point!
We’re so glad you found your way to us here at the Morristown Unitarian Universalist Fellowship! Newcomers among us sometimes find themselves wondering, “With all that this fellowship has to offer, where should I begin if I want to nurture my spirit and deepen my connection to this community?” If that sounds like you, then we’d like to invite you to join Starting Point!
Starting Point: An Introduction to the Unitarian Universalist Journey is a four-session small group ministry experience for new UUs. Led by Rev. Sasha, it offers newcomers an opportunity to experience Unitarian Universalism rather than just hear about it. Each session features readings, personal sharing, and small group discussion to explore our individual spiritual journeys, the journey of Unitarian Universalism, and the journey of our own Morristown Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. We hope you’ll join us!
- Session 1 (January 6): Your Journey—Sharing Our Stories and Spiritual Roadmaps
- Session 2 (January 13): The Unitarian Universalist Journey and The Journey of Our Fellowship
- Session 3 (January 20): Our Journey Together – The 3 Paths of UUism, Part 1
- Session 4 (January 27): The 3 Paths, Part 2 and Finding Your Journey Group
Unable to join us this time? This course will repeat in May.
Registration is required for this course.
AI&U&UU Monthly Discussion Group
A lay-led service was presented on 2/18/24 on the topic of Artificial Intelligence, entitled AI&U&UU. Here is a link to that service (actually a mildly edited version, with dead-time cut out and title clips and chapters inserted). If you haven’t seen it, it’s worth watching.
Since that service, there has been a monthly online discussion group meeting. We meet the first Wednesday of each month, alternating between 4:00PM and 8:00PM. The 12/4/24 meeting will be at 4:00PM. The first Wednesday of January is actually 1/1/25 so the January meeting will be 8:00PM 1/8/25.
There is an AI&U&UU page on the MUUF website. The general points that guide our discussions are listed there. In general we have a topic to catalyze the discussion. In December the topic was inspired by a 13-minute YouTube video which describes an AI driving coach to help improve the skills of aspiring race car drivers. The title of the video is “I Got Trained By AI (it was insanely good)”. So the December topic is: “If you had an AI ‘at your elbow’ at all times, what kind of things could it do to make your life better?“
The Zoom information needed to join the discussions. is also on that page. Feel free to join our lively discussion. If you have any questions or comments, please contact Gabor gabor@muuf.org.
Mindfulness Meditation
We gather to encourage and support one another in meditation practice and in walking a path toward greater awareness and freedom. The meeting includes meditation, reading from Buddhist teachers, personal sharing, and discussion. Beginners and long-time practitioners are welcome.
Facilitated by members of the MUUF Buddhist Sangha
Green Earth Ministry
GEM is the Fellowship’s environmental committee. We sponsor opportunities for advocacy for members of the congregation and educational programs for MUUF, sometimes inviting members of the wider community. All are welcome to attend our monthly meetings.
