About the event
This summer, the Morristown Unitarian Universalist Fellowship invites adventurers ages 10–110 to gather around the gaming table for pizza and a unique religious education experience: a Dungeons & Dragons-based exploration of 6 key values: Justice, Equity, Transformation, Pluralism, Interdependence, and Generosity, with Love at the center of them all.
Led by our “Dungeon Minister,” the Rev. Sasha Ostrom, this 8‑week program blends fantasy role‑playing with spiritual reflection, collaborative storytelling, and good old-fashioned fun. Whether you’re a seasoned tabletop gamer or you’ve never rolled a d20 in your life but would like to give it a try, you are welcome here. Morristown UU members, Unitarian Universalists from other congregations, and the general public are all invited to participate. This program is appropriate for ages 10-110.
What to Expect
Across 8 Thursday evening sessions (5:30–7:30pm, July 16-September 3), players will journey through an original fantasy storyline set in the distant world of Golarion. Long ago, a prophecy foretold a mysterious apocalypse - and an equally mysterious savior known only as the Last Azlanti. Now, as an ancient threats rises and the gods themselves scramble to protect creation, you and your fellow players have been gathered from across the planets and planes as potential saviors. Will you rise to the challenge?
The first week offers the opportunity to create your own character and learn about the game. Each following week, the group will explore one of the six Values through roleplay, teamwork, and imaginative problem‑solving. The final session brings all six Values together in an epic conclusion.
Who Can Join
- Ages 10–110 (minors must be accompanied by a parent/guardian)
- Experienced players and total beginners
- Morristown UU community, UUs from other congregations, and the general public
If you can’t attend the character creation session during week 1, you may choose from a selection of pre‑generated characters in a later week. Experienced players should note that we’ll be using Pathfinder 1e rules to make use of the Pathfinder SRD online materials.
Can't Be There Weekly? That's totally okay! This game is designed so that it will be meaningful both for players who join us at the gaming table for all 8 consecutive sessions as well as for "drop-in" players who are only able to do a limited number of weeks. Even one is fine!
Here's how it works:
Players who are able to come to the first session will have an opportunity to create your own character, which you will be able to use throughout the game. Your character will essentially belong to a large organization of adventurers who are called upon as needed (an available) to accompany other characters each week on a critical mission. Unable to play on a particular week? That's fine; it just means your character didn't go on that week's mission!
If you are unable to attend the first session to build your own character, Rev. Sasha will have a variety of pre-generated characters available for you to select from on the week that you are able to attend. You may claim one to use for the duration of the game or select a different character each week. Registration & Attendance
There are 10 player spots per week. Seats are offered first‑come, first‑served. You may attend one session, all eight, or as many as you like. To guarantee your place at the table, please sign up on our website for each week that you plan to attend. Spots are limited, so please do not sign up until you're sure you will be there.
