The Unitarian Universalist denomination has many social justice oriented organizations. The following are the ways our Fellowship is involved with just a few of these. For more information on any of these initiatives, please contact socialjustice@muuf.org.
Unitarian Universalist Ministry for Earth (UUMFE) and Create Climate Justice
The Unitarian Universalist Ministry for Earth (UUMFE, https://www.uumfe.org/) empowers bold and accountable action for environmental justice among Unitarian Universalists and other people of faith and conscience.
The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) works with UUMFE to involve Unitarian Universalists in climate justice and solidarity work in the wider world. Within the UUA, the Green Sanctuary Program provides a framework for congregations to demonstrate their commitment to environmental justice by aligning their values with their actions through becoming certified Green Sanctuaries. Morristown Unitarian Fellowship became a Green Sanctuary congregation in 2002.
The Fellowship’s environmental committee, the Green Earth Ministry (GEM), has taken part in UUMFE initiatives, such as programs for Earth Day, World Water Day, and Biodiversity Day. Over the years, GEM has funded the Fellowship’s congregational membership in UUMFE.
GEM and several individual Fellowship members have signed up with Create Climate Justice, an on-line community organizing hub for UU climate activists (https://www.createclimatejustice.net/).
Partner Church Committee
The Partner Church Committee maintains the relationship with the Fellowship’s partner church in Sinfalva, Romania (Transylvania). The Committee raises funds, disseminates information about the origins and history of Unitarianism and its state in modern-day Romania, and encourages contacts between the members of the two congregations. The national UU Partner Church Council maintains a website here.

Unitarian Universalist United Nations Office Envoy and Committee
The Unitarian Universalist United Nations Office (UU@UN, formerly UU-UNO), is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) with consultative status at the UN, which offers access to critical forums and working groups for real influence on issues being worked at that global body. Recent initiatives include a successful push to have GLBT rights recognized as human rights on the world stage; Women & Security; and Women & Climate Change.
The Fellowship Envoy Committee represents the UU@UN within our congregation, raises funds to support the group through individual and congregational membership; disseminates information on current UN activities as well as the UU@UN’s own programs, and plans Sunday Services and other events at the Fellowship to promote UU-UNO’s goals.
See more at their website UU@UN Website
UU FaithAction NJ
The Fellowship is a member of UU FaithAction NJ. Fellowship members with interests in health care, economic and environmental justice, marriage equality, and immigration reform can join with other New Jersey UU congregations to effect change through the state legislative process.
Denominational Affairs Liaison
The Denominational Affairs liaison is responsible for keeping the Fellowship informed of what is happening at the Unitarian Universalist Association. The liaison keeps members and friends abreast of social justice initiatives, including Study Action Issues and informed of the decisions that can affect our congregation. Things like Fair Compensation Guideline updates and opportunities for grants or programs through the denomination.
