Target construction dates: June 15, 2015 for the parking lot, and September for the new building; provided we can complete the design and construction documents promptly.
Next key step: Create detailed specifications for the interior elements of the new building. Yes, the rooms are large and spacious, but will they have the things that make operating in the building a joy such as electric plugs where we need them and ample closet space?
We’ll be holding a series of open meetings to obtain your input on the three key spaces: the new Religious Education classrooms, the new kitchen and the large meeting room, hallway and bathrooms. While we welcome input from all members, we are particularly interested in speaking with “power users,” for example, Religious Education parents and teachers regarding the new classrooms, or our fabulous Fellowship cooks and coffee hour gurus regarding the kitchen.
Religious Education Classrooms Sessions: Sunday 11/9 @ 10:45 am and Thursday 11/13 @ 7 pm.
Fellowship Hall Sessions: Sunday 11/16 @ 12:15 pm and Thursday 11/20 @ 7 pm.
Kitchen Sessions: Sunday 11/23 @ 10:15 am and Thursday 12/4 @ 7 pm.
While we can add interior features, please recall that we cannot alter the footprint of the building as that is fixed in the site plan.
The interior finishes, things like paint color and color of floor coverings, are actually left until later in the design when the interior layout is nearly final. The architects will prepare materials boards with samples of things such as floor coverings and potential color choices for us to consider at that time.
The input from these sessions will be given to the architects who will translate our requirements into detailed plans, including the necessary mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. While all comments and suggestions will be submitted to the architects, please understand that not every suggestion may be included in the final plans.
These are exciting times; we are truly building our future for our children and our children’s children!
