Every year, the MUF High School Youth
Group makes a trip to South Carolina to build a house for Habitat For Humanity. This is a big
undertaking, requiring 5 adult advisors and 20 kids. The group spends
most of the year planning, preparing, and fundraising for this trip,
which builds a youth group as well as a house. We will build our 17th
house this year. It takes a lot of time, effort, commitment, and the
support of our community. And, of course, it takes money.
This year, Jason
Ricci and New Blood has kindly agreed to perform a benefit
concert to help raise funds for this year's project. This cutting edge
band plays a mix of blues,
jazz,
and funk,
exciting and delighting audiences with their superb musicianship,
intense jamming, and tight interplay. Jason Ricci, on harmonica and
vocals, is becoming legendary among musicians and fans alike, playing
with an intensity and virtuousity that leaves longtime harp players
shaking their heads in disbelief. Think Coltrane on harp. You've never
heard anything like this.
"One of the biggest regrets I have is that I never
got to see Jimi Hendrix, but seeing Jason Ricci's literally
breathtaking and physics defying show in San Jose Wednesday night is
probably the closest I will get. Jason Ricci did for the electric, and
acoustic harmonica, what Hendrix did for the guitar: took it somewhere
it's never been". Brad Kava, San
Jose Mercury News
"As a lover of live music, a JRNB show is absolutely
exhilarating. Imagine the best virtuoso-filled "jam band" you've ever
seen (think early '90's Phish, old Fleck tones, Allmans, Robert
Randolph, Derek Trucks, etc.) and then double the energy and stage
presence."
- Blake Taylor, Cincinnati City Beat
Last year's event was a wonderful
evening, full of great music, great people, and great vibes all around.
Have a listen to Baked
Potato, Hip
Shake, or Amazing
Grace to get an idea.
If you came last year, bring a friend this time.
They'll be really glad you did. And if you missed it, come and join us
this time. You'll have a great time, and you'll be helping us build a
home and a youth group.
